Coaches Meeting

This week started with a district new coaches meeting.  During that meeting I was able to highlight the work we are doing in PLC’s using a presentation app called Canva https://twitter.com/canva .  This is a link to the presentation LRES Presentation.

The teachers are using their Symbaloos that they created last week during PLC’s and adding resources each time we meet and on their own.  They also share additional resources that can be added to the Symbaloo.  They have commented about how much time it saves when looking for their resources to plan and for student engagement. Instructional Coaching

Starting the Week Out Being Productive

This week I plan to continue working with all my grade levels on fine tuning the digital resources that I’m sharing with them.  This morning I introduced  Blendspace to my second grade teachers and they were very excited.  I assessed their learning by having them respond to a Padlet  answering a question to see if they learned something they could take back to their classroom.  They loved this type of exit ticket too!!

I am going to help teachers this week create a Symbaloo to ensure that their resources are all in one place.  This will help them save time in their instructional planning.  I am so excited about the work we are doing here at school through our PLC’s.

Slowly but surely

My PLC’s are really coming together.  I met with first grade teachers and third grade teachers this week.  After introducing Blendspace to the 1st grade teachers, they were very excited! I suggested that we do one together at next week’s PLC and they were in full agreement.  One teacher was going to do one on her own and bring it back to the group to share.

My third grade teachers were equally as excited.  I had introduced Blendspace to them the previous week but I wasn’t sure they were buying in.  This week was totally different!!!  I showed them how they could use their own documents and other sites to create Blendspace where all of their resources could be.  They even thought it was easier than creating Smartboard lessons!

I’m so proud of the work they are doing to create optimal learning environments in their classrooms.

PLC Happenings

A few weeks ago I was so excited about the outcome of one of our PLC’s.  I met with our 4th grade teachers and shared some digital learning resources with them.  Two of the resources were  Blendspace (https://www.tes.com/lessons) and padlet.com.  One of the 4th grade teachers wanted to use Padlet with her students in teaching a lesson about inferences.  She used some iPads that she had awarded from a grant she had written.  The students used the iPads to respond to her questions from the lesson using the Padlet that she had created.  The students were truly engaged in the lesson through collaborating with each other to answer the lesson questions.  This was a new digital resource for the teacher and the students.  I know that my job as an instructional coach is important because I have an impact on teacher capacity and therefore student learning.  The excited among the teachers is spreading and I look forward to sharing more teaching strategies with students.  #ndnredinstructionalcoaching

Instructional Coaching

As an instructional coach, I have the wonderful opportunity to impact the teaching and learning of teachers and students.  I’ve had several positions in education but instructional coaching is one that I’ve had three times in my career.  It is an area that can help teachers grow in their profession.  Everyday is different for me as an instructional coach but effective coaching takes a lot of planning and flexibility based on the teachers I’m working with.

Throughout this blog, I will continue to share my experiences as an instructional coach working with teachers.  Stay tuned! #ndninstructionalcoaching
